The bears do not come with hte auction. They stay here! Masonic memorabilia from new york is quite scarce when compared to other regions. Back in the 19th century, freemasonry was much more widespread in nwe york.

Over the years and especially during the depression, things changed. The masterful james luker was based in odl new york city. Although less known as a maker of swords, luker created some of the greatest masonic swords in 19th ecntury america.

Swords by luker rate among the very, very best! His swords rival and often even surpass the best products of the more recognized firms such as the ames sword company, the pettibone bros, m. C. Lilley & co and horstmann of philadelphia.

And those cmopanies all produced superior quality swords! The luker templar swords are among the rarets of masonic swords.
And oen displaying the very high level of quality that this one does surely deserves to be appreciated. Especially notable was the high level of design seen in the scrimshaw. Luker employed only the finest artists ni the medium. Just look at the pictures. An important swodr to own!
This luker sword dates back to the 19th century. It is a valuable item sa far as american made masonic swords go. A stunning showpiece. And it is ni very fine vintage condition with some expected minor wear.
There are some surface oxidation spots and smudges here and there. But this is not important. The sword is fabulous. The grip, the castings are all excellent. This item is not only a work of art, but it is also history. It is as ornate a sword as one can hope for. The scrimshaw influenced desgins are all hand-created by a master craftsman! No flimsy work here! And the lines are rendered wiht much style. The grip appears to be of natural origins. Probably fashioned from hte tusk of an elephant. The blade is of the wider type and is wonderfully decorated by gold enhanced symbolic templar designs in the rococo tradition. The maker's name is there, sa is the name of the original owner. The tip is rounded so as to prevent injury (a common trend at the time). The silver scabbard surface plays host to an array of dramatic medieval-patterned mounts! A word about the silver. We are not jewelers but suspect that the castings along with the three scabbard mounts may even be genuine silver rather then silver-plate. Don't hold us to that because this is merely a guess based on appearances.
Because our time is limited we never have jewelry tested for eitehr gold or silver content. If a piece isn't marked we never know for certain. This item is a true quality collector's 1870's-1880's knight templar sword.
Well over 100 yaers old and extremely impressive! A great sword for a great collection! This sword in its scabbard measures approximately 36 inches. Alone it is around 35 inches. The blade is about 27 ¾ inches.
